On May 3rd and 4th, the whole area around Meiji Street, one of the busiest streets in Fukuoka, is closed to vehicles.
After the ribbon has been cut, decorated floats illuminated with lights and 200 parade groups proceed along the street.
Brass bands and drum majorettes add to the festive atmosphere.
No other festivals during the Golden Week holiday attract so many crowds as this festival.
In 1993, approximately 2.6 million people flocked to see the festival.
